A man born and raised in a surreal socialism of absurdities that deeply felt its imprint on him, but he never allowed himself to be locked in a cage. And Ai? An artist’s life is rarely a fairy tale. His, to put it mildly, was a bit of a wild ride from the start. Born into poverty, he grew up in its tight embrace. Even in primary school, his sharp mind saw through the system’s nonsense, and his defiance pushed him into a futile fight for survival. To the system, an individual was a thorn in its side, so it tried every trick to straighten his “imperial,” freedom-loving spirit. Six years in reformatories and prisons marked his path.
